Today saw the first television ad campaigns from the major parties: Labor’s ’Let’s move Australia forward’ campaign (by McCann-Erickson) and The Liberal’s ‘Stand Up for Australia’ campaign (by Ted Horton): Let’s move Australia forward Stand up for Australia The Labor campaign is smooth vanilla. In a soft and soothing tone, Gillard reassures us (that under her administration) we’ll have a budget surplus by 2013, strong border protection, sustainable population growth, investment in renewable energy infrastructre and a focus on education. The footage looks like it literally was sourced from Getty Images, with a soundtrack to match. Not even one day into the election campaign and things have turned ugly already. I know that politics can be a passion-fueled topic, but its appalling that Jassmine Wood (Federal Liberal candidate for Hindmarsh) and a party volunteer were assaulted while campaigning today.
