Election ad spend to cost $10m a week

Today saw the first television ad campaigns from the major parties: Labor’s ’Let’s move Australia forward’ campaign (by McCann-Erickson) and The Liberal’s ‘Stand Up for Australia’ campaign (by Ted Horton): Let’s move Australia forward Stand up for Australia The Labor campaign is smooth vanilla. In a soft and soothing tone, Gillard reassures us (that under her administration) we’ll have a budget surplus by 2013, strong border protection, sustainable population growth, investment in renewable energy infrastructre and a focus on education. The footage looks like it literally was sourced from Getty Images, with a soundtrack to match. Tit for tatting, Abbott plays the hip-pocket card, claiming the Labor deficit is growing by $100 million a week pushing up the cost of living and increasing taxes, all set to a terrible…

election day 16 :: costello still under the radar

i ask again, has anyone seen costello? it seems i am the only one wondering that. brisbane times says: The Treasurer, who will become prime minister if the Coalition wins the November 24 election, has had a higher profile in this campaign than in any other. But are voters noticing? for all this new ‘profile’ i have to say i have hardly heard a word about him, let alone out of him. and if it has been, it is always in relation to howard saying he and costello see eye-to-eye. we know that he’s miles behind rudd and howard, but you’d expect that. of course the actual leaders are going to be ahead of the future prime minster. but what about how he fares…
