In/outputs - a quick look at what’s passed through my feeds this week Artist Revenue Streams The Future of Music Coalition has launched a research project to “… gather crucial information about the ways that US-based musicians and composers are currently generating income from songs, recordings or performances, and how this has changed over the past five years. The research will be informed by a combination of interviews, financial data and a survey. The Coalition hopes to use the research to: understand how musicians are making money in the music industry; inform advocacy and lobbying activities; and asses the value of new technologies/services available to musicians. Reznor: Record industry ripping off “true fans”

Trent Reznor has always been a vocal member of the recording industry. But his obvious discontent with the current trajectory of the majors became very clear last night with a post on NIN.com. Reznor’s latest disenfranchisement, while focused on the industry at large, has been prompted by Universal Music Group‘s pricing and distribution strategy for Reznor’s latest Interscope Records release, Year Zero (2007). Here’s what Reznor said: As the climate grows more and more desperate for record labels, their answer to their mostly self-inflicted wounds seems to be to screw the consumer over even more.
