Two sides, same coin — De Tweeling (2002)

Posted on April 22nd, 2009

It’s the 1920s. A set of twin girls are separated, aged six, sent to live in separate countries. Lotte (Julia Koopmans, Thekla Reuten, Ellen Vogel chronologically), suffering from consumption, is sent to live in The Netherlands in the care of a wealthy aunt. Her sister, Anna (Sina Richardt, Nadja Uhl, Gudrun Okras chronologically) is not as fortunate, finding herself forced into a work on her Catholic uncle’s farm in Germany.   This traumatic separation is heightened by the fact that it happens only moments after the burial of their parents; the first in a series of events that will tear them apart for over forty years. In an age with all memory is outlawed, a man is trapped on a train trying to escape the place he most desperately wishes to…

Have you ever just clicked with someone? Ever felt they just got you? Ever felt like they were inside your head? But what if that link had a sinister side? What if their knowing your thoughts was involuntary? Like Minds (2006) is the tale of one such relationship; a complicated adversarial tussle between two boys bound by history, mythology and blood. But it is not your ordinary thriller. Alex Forbes (Eddie Redmayne) is a cocky private school boy living with the mantle of his lineage. With more than charm behind his smile, he plays being son-of-the-principal to his favour. But when he is forced to share his room with a beautiful and strange boy, Nigel Colby (Tom Sturridge), Alex finds himself being slowly suffocated…
