We all knew it was only a matter of time till Google released Chrome for Android. And that time is now. Google Chrome for Android was released in beta for Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich yesterday in the United States. Unfortunately my Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab 7.0 both aren’t running Android 4.0, but The Official Google Blog details some cool features. Most importantly, tabs open on your desktop Chrome application show up in Chrome on your phone or tablet. Bookmark syncing is a welcome addition too. Here’s the YouTube video announcing the release of Chrome for Android. ↷ Introducing Chrome for Android on The Official Google Blog, 7 February. Not getting enough?
Australian DVD and online movie rental business Quickflix received a $10 million cash injection today as American cable network HBO secured a 15.7% interest in the business and a seat at the boardroom table. While they’ve done plenty of deals with other providers – including a deal with Quickflix itself only a few weeks ago which will bring popular series such as True Blood, Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire to the Australian service – it is not common for HBO to take a financial stake. The benefits to Quickflix are obvious. For HBO it positions their movies and series well in the Australian market ahead of speculation that other international players may be moving in soon. ↷ Quickflix wins $10 million investment from American television network HBO Patrick Stafford on…

The Google Crisis Response team at Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm, has released a public alerts service that plots government emergency alerts information onto their Public Alerts website and onto Google Maps. The first release is showing weather, public safety and earthquake alerts from the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the United States National Weather Service, and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). In light of the debacle around the dissemination of emergency information during the horrific fires in Victoria in 2009, it’s about time services such as this were being fed government information. Hopefully the new platform will eventually be integrated into google.com search results as well. And hopefully other government agencies around the world will start releasing data feeds to populate the platform. Gimmie more Google Public Alerts help, Google. ↷ Public Alerts now…
