By default Google Maps display at zoom level 13 (there are 18 levels taking the world map as 1 and Street View as 18). That means, that when you embed a Google Map your map may be showing a lot of distance around the plotted location you don’t need to show.
Problem
Let’s say you write a coffee blog and you want to embed a map that shows the location of tiger, tiger Coffee Bar in Perth (one of my personal recommendations in Perth!). If you search Google Maps for ‘tiger, tiger coffee bar’ the cafe is plotted onto the map. If you embedded the map as is it would be at zoom level 13. But given it’s only one location you’re directing your audience too, you want to show tiger, tiger at a closer zoom level. How do you do that?
Solution
Click on zoom in and zoom out buttons on the map to zoom the map to the desired level. In this instance you decide zoom level 16 is right, so you use the zoom in button (+) to zoom to zoom level 16. Alternatively, if you wanted to show tiger, tiger in Street View, simply zoom in until the map switches to Street View or drag the yellow pegman to tiger, tiger’s location on the map. (If you’re actually looking for tiger, tiger, you have to go through those gates. The cafe is in a courtyard in the middle of the surrounding buildings. Very nice!)
