How to – Embed a Google Map that displays one result from a search
Have you ever done a search for a place on Google Maps and got back numerous search results. While this is useful when you’re browsing for local pizza joints, or cafes or bars, when you are looking for a specific place so that you can embed the maps in a HTML page somewhere else this can be very annoying. If you follow the usual steps to embed a search result you end up will all of the alphabetised search results plotted on your map.
Problem
Let’s say you write a coffee blog and you want to embed a map that shows the location of Brother Espresso in the Brisbane (one of my personal recommendations in Brisbane!). If you search Google Maps for ‘brother espresso’ five search results are returned.
But let’s say you had tried to coffee at the Margaret Street cafe and wanted to just plot it’s location on your embedded map. When you embed this Google Map in your website the map displays each search result plotted on the map.
So how do you show just the Brother Espresso on Margaret Street?
Solution
Click on the search result you want to display before you embed the map. It should display just that search result.
Alternatively, if you just wanted to display the cafe in Bulimba, simply select search result ‘C’ before embedding the map. Your map should now just plot the Brother Espresso in Bulimba.
