Not even one day into the election campaign and things have turned ugly already. I know that politics can be a passion-fueled topic, but its appalling that Jassmine Wood (Federal Liberal candidate for Hindmarsh) and a party volunteer were assaulted while campaigning today. In an ABC News report Wood said:
“I got hit in the side of the head. My campaign volunteer was actually down on the ground with somebody sitting on his chest really hitting him in the face. The man’s friend joined in, hitting my volunteer. They had an issue with the Liberal Party’s stance on border protection and immigration.”
UPDATE: 19 July, 10.46 pm There are currently reports of two incidences of suspected violence against Brent Thomas (Federal Labor candidate for Hughes) that are being investigated which occurred in the lead up to the campaign. On Monday 12 July a projectile was fired through Thomas’ campaign office window at Moorebank. Then Yesterday an “unidentified object” was fired at his home causing minor damage to the exterior.
